Swirls and Pearls
I finally got some pearl candies to help add to the decorations of my pint sized wedding cakes. I had lots of fun trying them out on this cake. White on white decoration sometimes needs some sprucing up. I used swirls, vines, and flowers on this pretty cake. I put pearl candies in the middle of each flower and in other places on my design.
Snowflakes
Pretty sugar cookies. I finally got to make my snowflakes this year. Last year I bought these adorable cookie cutters with grand plans which of course didn't happen. I got to them this year though, and I LOVE how they came out. I used Almond Joy bits for the candies instead of M & M. The flavor actually complimented the cookie better than chocolate.
Elegant in Black and White
Cake - White
Filling - buttercream
Frosting - buttercream
Servings - 20
This cake was a fun one for me. I've been working on improving my swirls and flowers. I used velvet ribbon instead of grosgrain or satin. It worked far better than any other type I've tried. Most of the time, the ribbon will pick up grease marks from the frosting, but the velvet ribbon didn't. It was nice, stiff, and actually easier to use. Another plus is that it is very black. I also used Wilton pre-made frosting for the black. I still haven't been successful in finding a black food coloring that doesn't come out grey.

Anya's Kaya Cake
I made this cake for my daughter turning 8. She loves the American Girl Kaya and received the doll for her birthday. I wanted to do a cake for her with Kaya on it. Kaya is the Native American doll in the American Girl collection. I found a 2 1/2" puffy sticker of Kaya at Michael's craft and hobby store and attached it to a piece of thin dowel. I used the rest of the thin dowel to create her tepee poles. I colored the fondant brown and stretched it over the dowels for the tepee covering. I used a toothpick to hold the flap of Kaya's tepee open. The cake is chocolate so I could put the tepee directly on the cake so it would look like a dirt floor. I built a fire ring and put broken toothpicks in it for wood. Then I used a grass tip and covered the cake with grass leaving room for a small stream. It is a simple design, but I think it came out very nice. The cake is only a small 8" square. My family doesn't eat a lot of cake and we only had a couple friends over.

A Bit Busy
Sotas Trio
Cake - White
Filling - Strawberry cream
Frosting - Ivory buttercream
Border - Bead border w/ sotas
These cakes are the result of a mistake. I made a round bottom instead of a
square for a small wedding. I re-made the bottom and then moved the top
tier over. I repaired the top of the 10" round. This was the first time I had to
remake something. It was tough, but finished in time.
